Johor Bahru ยท Established 2009
A firm built around the quieter side of legal work.
Lentera Pencen began as a focused response to a gap: retirees facing pension difficulties with nowhere to turn for considered, unhurried legal support. That is still what we do.
Back to HomeHow Lentera Pencen came to be
Lentera Pencen opened its doors in Johor Bahru in 2009, founded by a small group of lawyers who had noticed that pension-related legal matters were poorly served. Clients arriving at large general firms were often passed between departments, given advice that felt rushed, or charged for time that produced little clarity.
The firm's founders believed there was a better way to conduct this kind of work: by limiting the practice to pension and retirement asset matters, and by operating at a pace that the subject genuinely demands. Pension questions often carry significant financial and emotional weight. They deserve a careful hearing.
Over the years, Lentera Pencen has served retirees, civil servants, private sector employees approaching retirement, and families navigating estate matters involving EPF and pension assets. Each engagement has reinforced the same conviction: that the quality of legal support in this area is measured not by speed, but by the thoroughness of the advice and the client's ability to make informed decisions.
The firm's name โ Lentera, meaning lantern in Malay โ reflects this orientation. We aim to bring light to situations that can feel opaque, and to hold that light steadily while clients consider their options.

Our professional commitments
Malaysian Bar Membership
All practising lawyers at Lentera Pencen hold current practising certificates issued by the Malaysian Bar and are bound by the Legal Profession Act 1976.
Client Confidentiality
Solicitor-client privilege applies to all communications. Files are kept in secure storage and are not shared with third parties except where required by law or with written client consent.
PDPA Compliance
Personal data collected in the course of our work is processed in accordance with the Personal Data Protection Act 2010 (Malaysia). Clients may request access to their data at any time.
Clear Communication
We explain every step of a matter in plain language. Legal jargon is used only where precision requires it, and always with an accompanying explanation.
Sensitivity Protocols
Our clients are often navigating significant life events. We have internal protocols for handling distressing disclosures and for ensuring meetings do not become emotionally burdensome.
Continuing Professional Development
All lawyers in the firm complete the CPD hours required by the Malaysian Bar annually, with a deliberate focus on pension-related legislative updates and KWSP procedural developments.
Working principles that shape every engagement
Lentera Pencen was founded on a simple idea: that legal work connected to a person's retirement and financial security deserves the same patience and care that a doctor brings to a long-term patient. We are not a transaction-oriented firm. We do not measure our days by the number of files closed.
In practice, this means we spend more time in the early meetings than many firms would. It means we take careful notes during consultations and follow up in writing with a summary of what was discussed and what options were identified. It means we tell clients plainly when a matter is unlikely to succeed, even if proceeding would be profitable for us.
Johor Bahru's pension landscape is shaped by both the federal KWSP framework and state-specific employment histories. We have developed a working knowledge of the particular patterns that arise in this region โ from civil servants whose pensionable service spans multiple restructuring exercises, to private sector retirees navigating disputes with former employers over final salary calculations.
We work in English and Bahasa Malaysia. Our documents are prepared in whichever language is most useful to the client and, where family members are involved, we can accommodate mixed-language discussions.
A conversation costs nothing except time.
If you have a pension matter โ however simple or complex it seems โ we are glad to hear about it and to offer our honest view on what, if anything, can usefully be done.
